Joana Lucas

Visual Artist

Joana Lucas (Lisbon, Portugal), lives and works in Berlin.
The visual artist graduated in Painting from the Faculdade de Belas Artes de Lisboa (University of Lisbon), attended the Statens Kunstakademi, in Oslo, and she studied Advanced Photography at the Portuguese Association of Photographic Art, in Lisbon. Her work can be found in several private collections in Portugal, Spain, France, Switzerland, Germany, United Kingdom, Denmark, Sweden, Poland, Taiwan, Hong Kong, China.

Where in the world is the biggest systemic fault?

The biggest fault of a system is not to include its own evolution. If ambition is blind and unity a mirage, the foreseeing of the future will be misguided.

What would be the shape of an earthquake?

A red line zigzagging upwards.

What should we protect?

Empathy and the awareness of the other. Person, place, animal, thing.

 

How we met Joana

We ran an open call from the 24th of May to the 18th of June 2021.
We selected eleven projects that explore contemporary discontinuities using the medium of text, photography, illustration or drawing.
Joana Lucas submitted the project Digital Nature which was selected to be included and published in the first issue of chumbo — our printed magazine dedicated to creative research.
