Poet and Filmmaker
João Meirinhos lives and works in Lisbon, Portugal.
He is a poet and a filmmaker. He has worked for socially engaging projects since 2007, developing his work in different cultural contexts – in Bologna, Barcelona, Tallinn, Manchester and Hong Kong. He is the founder of audiovisual production company Filmes Sombra.
In the beginning was the message, tattooing, agriculture and monogamy, witchcraft, betrayal and jealousy, multiplying wine, poisoning water and going to buy shrouds from the Chinese.

Where in the world is the biggest systemic fault?
In the belief that markets would self-regulate in a balanced and sustainable way.
What would be the shape of an earthquake?
From the epicentre (internal), like a shockwave (external), a dreamlike hybrid, in the most absolute and total silence. The "earthquake" only exists if there is an able subject to interpret that (human) concept.
What should we protect?
The memory of the invisible ones.
How we met João
We ran an open call from the 24th of May to the 18th of June 2021.
We selected eleven projects that explore contemporary discontinuities using the medium of text, photography, illustration or drawing.
João Meirinhos submitted the project Uma Extinção Sustentável which was selected to be included and published in the first issue of chumbo — our printed magazine dedicated to creative research.
