PRIMEIRO CAIS

a documentary by Chiara Missaggia

PRIMEIRO CAIS (First Dock) portrays the hidden lifestyle of a group of fishermen in Cacilhas, Portugal.

In an ex ice factory abandoned since 40 years, Mario and David have their activity as professional fishermen. In this place they keep and prepare all their equipment, but there is also a second floor with a kitchen and a big table.

Here, everyday, when they come back from fishing in the Tagus River, they prepare lunch for themselves and for a group of friends created in the last years, thanks to the common passion for fishing. They are bound by a great friendship, which is the reason why this spot turned out to be a place of work and of gathering and sharing as well.

Primeiro Cais (First Dock) was filmed along 8 months between 2016 and 2017 and focuses on people’s stories and convivial moments, and on fishing in a salty river.

“Primeiro Cais” entered the official selection of Leiria Film Fest (2020) and Shortcutz Funchal (2021), and was nominated by Cineuphoria in the section Best documentaries in 2021.
